"Unlike many veteran NHL coaches and the perennial retread coaching candidates, Grönborg favor the older players while ignoring the young kids on the roster and in the organizational family" (Garth).

Who wants retread coaches:

"he moment Phil Housley was fired by the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday afternoon, my mind went immediately to Todd McLellan" (Garth).

"McLellan can he announced as next head coach of teh Sabres as earlyy as Tuesday morning" (Garth).

"So, @BuffaloSabres will have a new head coach named Todd McLellan and new sweaters for the 50th Anniversary season. It's time to bring back the vintage Royal Blue & Gold. The Pegulas owe the fan base a solid! #Sabres" (Sabresbuzz via twitter).

"Per usual, I have thoughts. Many thoughts. Alain Vigneault appears to be in the pole position right now" (Garth)

"Kevin Dineen, the veteran NHL coach. My friend Dan Hickling reminded me this week that Dineen is more than ready to coach in today's NHL." (Garth)

"Bob Boughner, who was fired by the Florida Panther" (Garth)

I guess you never wanted retread coaches did you garf? I did'nt even get to the tippet blog

The usual, lets hype up the next nobody. Great team management. Did botts even talk to A.V. or Coach Q? Letting these two slip through your hands is another fine example of Sabre blunders. T.P. always goes shopping in the basement where the bargain bins and unwanted merchandise is. You get what you pay for.

"It's time to bring back the vintage Royal Blue & Gold. The Pegulas owe the fan base a solid! " That not a solid. That's a steaming deuce. A dumb jersey won't win games. A solid would be hiring the right experienced G.M., coach & scouting department. Then ice a SOLID TEAM.

Buffalo Sabres GMJB needs to step outside the NHL coaching box and recognize the opportunity to interview and possibly hire one of the great modern day hockey coaches on the world market. Just look at his accomplishments and one would have to say let’s sit down with this man and see if he’s the one to lead our young team. Keeping in mind this team the Buffalo Sabres has a large amount of Young talented players from his home country of Sweden. Don’t let this opportunity slip through our fingers only to see another NHL team beat us to this fantastic opportunity!

The Sabres tried the neophyte approach with Housley. Predictably it did not work. Why the heck would they get another inexperienced coach?

You make a good point re: Housley’s inexperience, however, comparing the two coaches would be comparing apples and oranges. Housley was only an assistant at the pro level trying to make the next leap to head coaching at the NHL level. Grönborg has excelled at the world level coaching with and against the best players in the world that includes the best players from the NHL. Grönborg’s accomplishments with and against the best players in the world have him ready for the NHL. I hope we don’t miss out on a fantastic opportunity.

At this point, he's probably better than any other option out there.

That's the same knee-jerk reaction that teams use when they want to get as far away from where they just came from. Find the right guy, regardless of his experience. We don't want first-timers and we don't want re-treads - what else is there?
